Today is the SIXTH day of the Malone Street Studios Blog Launch Party, which means you have until midnight tonight to enter for this weeks giveaway for a custom, handpainted sign.
On Tuesday, you read about my niece’s vintage ice cream social we had for her 2nd birthday.
Little Claire is my sister Julia and my brother-in-law Brian’s first baby. And when she was born, I wanted to do something special for her.
As they were living in a town-home while they were renovating their charming Dallas home (I’ll have to dedicate a whole post to the newly renovated home someday!), we had some time to start planning little Claire’s nursery.
Both Julia and Brian are world travelers. They have been to Europe, Australia, South America, and even opted for a safari filled adventure in Africa for their honeymoon nearly five years ago!
Julia has been collecting children’s books from around the world for years now. She was so excited that she would have a little one to share the stories with and to pass on the stories of her worldly adventures for years to come.
And out of all the places she has had the opportunity to visit, Paris, France tops her charts.
Considering the above, it was easy for Julia to pick out the theme for Claire’s room – French inspired with whimsical travel accents.
She picked out her bedding from Carousel Designs – a green and cream toile print mixed with polka-dotted green sheets.
I wish I had snapped some photos of the darling buffet-turned-changing-table they found at one of House of Hargrove’s monthly Barn Sales. But I was able to find some of the original photos on House of Hargrove’s Facebook page.
If you live in the great state of Texas, I highly recommend checking out the Barn Sale if you ever get the chance! They offer quality pieces of furniture with “good bones”, distressed perfectly, at reasonable prices! Plus each piece is 100% unique.
I’ll source some of the other décor finds at the bottom of this post.
To tie the room together, and to celebrate Claire, I painted a travel-inspired name canvas to display above her crib. This was her present for her very first Christmas….another great memory we shared as a family. For the first time in my entire life, we decided to pack up all the presents and drive up to Dallas that year to celebrate in Julia and Brian’s newly renovated home. We were all together in heart, though we did use Skype to connect with my sister Sara in Omaha and my other precious niece and three nephews. That’s right, she has FOUR children, all under the age of 9! She is a wonder mom! It was a beautiful Christmas!
Like this painted pink single-propeller plane, stacked on some pastel distressed boxes (all of which were recycled from the travel-inspired sip’n’see Julia’s friends and I hosted after Claire’s arrival – which sits atop the beautiful hand-crafted shelves my dad built. He’s the other woodcraftsman in my life. So lucky to have Frankie and my Dad both in my life!
The little twin bed was actually my dad’s growing up. Julia and I both slept in it as children, as well. And after Julia moved into her first condo, she had it powder coated in white. Now it serves as a guest bed, and eventually it will be Claire’s big girl bed! I love when furniture pieces get passed down from generation to generation….so much meaning and history behind each piece!
And the final touch is the dainty white chandelier lighting up the pale pink walls.
This little cutie sure does seem to like her room!
